WHAT IS PLASMA?

Plasma is a fourth state, separate from the solid, liquid and gas states of the materials.

It is based on a simple physical principle; when the energy is input, the matter changes state. The solid material turns into a liquid substance, the liquid substance turns into a gaseous substance. When there is more energy input into the gas, it becomes ionized and it becomes plasma, which is the fourth state of matter.

Plasma is a state of unstable energy. When contact with solid materials such as plastic and metal, the supplied plasma energy interacts with the surface and changes important surface properties (such as surface energy).

The direct current power source ionizes the pressurized air into plasma, cutting the conductive materials.

The power source, constant compressed air and the appropriate type of torch are required for the plasma cutting process to be performed.

The basic plasma cutting system includes a power source, an arc start circuit, and a torch. These system components provide the ionization capacity, process control and electrical energy required to make high quality cuts on a variety of materials.
The main function of the power source is to provide the correct energy for the protection of the plasma arc after ionization.

The arc start-up circuit is a high-frequency generator circuit. It is used for gas ionization and therefore plasma production.
The torch serves specifically as a holder for the wrapper and for the electrode and provides cooling (gas or water) to the parts.
